Do Roses Really Have Hips?

As I was going through my skin care arsenal, I came across something I had bought and had

not really used. Rose Hip Oil. I had heard of it which is why I picked it up but never really knew what it was good for. Coincidently, I had an email yesterday morning that was titled "If you're not using rose hip oil, you're missing out". Given the email and the bottle in my hand, I had to find out what it could do. I did some research and found that its good for a lot of things, in fact really really good!
So, what is it? First off, it's also known as rosehip seed oil. It comes from the seeds of wild rose bushes, primarily from the Rosa Canina variety, found in the southern Andes. The seeds are pressed to produce the oil and for cosmetic purposes, the oil should be extracted using a cold press method. Cold pressed oil produces a higher quality oil that retains its potency, is free of preservatives, chemicals and fragrances, making it a good choice for everyone, including those with sensitive skin. And rose hip oil is considered a "dry oil" because it absorbs quickly into the skin making it a good choice for all skin types, even oily skin where it can help control excessive oiliness and the appearance of shine.
So, what does it do? Just about everything! It contains high levels of vitamin A and antioxidants making it a powerhouse in attacking the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin elasticity and firmness. It contains vitamin C which helps to brighten the skin and even out skin tone. It's helps in the healing of scars and reduces the appearance of stretchmarks. Since its anti-inflammatory, it can help soothe irritation and redness, making it beneficial for conditions like eczema and rosacea. And it can be moisturizing for dry skin.
After finding all of this out, I literally wanted to bath in it but refrained from doing so and instead used it last night on my face. I mixed a couple of drops with my night moisturizer. When I got up this morning, I actually forgot about it but when I looked the mirror a couple of hours later, I was shocked. My skin looked radiant, plump and dare I say, a little less
"line-ness". I immediately checked online to read some reviews and saw comments like "my skin was bright and hydrated and looked younger in the morning" and "just WOW. I used it at night and the results are amazing the next day"
Later in the day we went up to the pool. I always use EltaMD sunscreen and my Avene compact makeup because both have a high SPF. After putting both on, my skin looked amazing. And this was just a 5-minute makeup!
Needless to say, this is a keeper. Now that I know what it does and have seen results in just overnight, I can literally say everything is "coming up roses"!
The rose hip oil I use is the Ordinary 100Percent Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil. It's cold pressed and has everything I need to do the job. And you can't beat the price. Acure the Essentials Rosehip Oil is also a good one to try at an economical price. If you are looking for something purely organic, Pura D'OR Organic Rosehip Seed oil may be the one to try. Trilogy Organic Rose Hip Oil and Radha Rosehip Oil are two highly regarded brands with excellent reviews. Just make sure the oil you chose is cold pressed and certified organic. And with as all new things, if you have sensitive skin do a patch test first.
My advice is to give it a try. After what I saw it's going to be in my nightly routine. Really, who doesn't want to wake up with a radiant skin glow? And all it takes is a "little rose" hips!
